For over 40 years, the residents of Somerton (many of whom have been parishioners at and students at Saint Christopher's) have spent wonderful snow filled days sledding on Trainer's Hill. This has been a decades long family tradition for us, with many people now bringing their own children to where they made such wonderful memories many years ago.

It has come to the attention of Somerton residents that there will no longer be sledding allowed at Trainer's Hill for fear of possible litigation and lawsuits resulting from injuries sustained on the grounds.

What we ask is, that instead of depriving the children of Somerton the indescribable joy of a winter's day on Trainer's Hill, let us come to some agreement about how we can allow this tradition to live on. Whether we raise funds to purchase signage that tells sledders they do so at their own rise, or if we can recruit a few volunteers to act as snow monitors on the few precious days of the year that we can sled. I am positive we can reach an agreement that doesn't result in closing off the experience for children of generations to come.

I ask you to please sign our petition to keep the spirit of joy and wonder alive on the snowy hills of Trainer's Pond. Also-- if you have a story, a photo or anything you would like to share to express the importance of this neighborhood tradition, please do so at our Facebook page:
