The board finally caved and lifted the ban on Darin. He will be at the fair to support his daughter like he should have been all along. We forced them to do the right thing for once, but we will stay watchful to ensure they do not try to pull …

At the 2018 Hudsonville Community Fair, there were animals of multiple species that did not reach the minimum weight limit. These animals were allowed to stay, but later disallowed from showing due to petitions. Darin, the Livestock committee president at the time, offered to take responsibility for the committee for this issue. It was later determined that as a result of his actions, Darin has been banned from the Hudsonville Fairgrounds for the 2019 fair along with being removed from any position indefinitely from the Fair board. As a Committee who volunteers solely to allow these kids to show, we feel this punishment goes above and beyond because of the harm it causes his daughter (a 4-H member). He will not be able to help in any capacity or even watch her show.

This petition is not for him to regain his former position as president on the livestock committee, however it is to allow him to be involved with Madison’s upcoming year in 4H. Darin took responsibility for more than just himself in this situation, and we’d like to help him be able to be there to support his daughter in 2019 at the Hudsonville Community Fair.

Please consider signing this document to allow Darin to be with his daughter during the 2019 Fair week.

The Fair Board clearly underestimated how many people are disgusted by their petty power trip. Watching this momentum build proves that our community refuses to let these bureaucrats punish Darin by keeping him away from his own daughter.

Banning the guy from attending a public event goes beyond proper disciplinary action and is basically bullying.

All my kids wanted to do was show 4H animals. It is long summer days giving up but they LOVED it. One year we went to 2 fairs showing pigs (different pigs) and in Oct one fair board denied my kids from showing the following year. We did all we could but ended up having to take them to court. The judge was shocked this even had to go to court. Let's support kids and agriculture and all they learn hands on! Too many kids are doing terrible things. 4H is NOT one of them

Removing him from his position seems sufficient, banning him from the entire fair seems a bit overboard. Keep it about the kids and allow him to support his child.

Im all for families in 4H, especially in the case of a man volunteering to take charge to be with his daughter at this memorable time of her life. Don't do this to any little girl and her daddy.

Bring Darin back, there is no need to ban him from his daughter. You thereby are punishing his daughter. Shame on you as a board. Remove him from the board, yes, from his child, you become the problem. And then it's time for a complete disbandment of the entire board. You would be eligible for a good case with the ACLU if you do not allow Darin to participate with his daughter.

Ban a parent for a volunteer position and a decision made by others as well to do what's best for kids? This is the problem with County fairs. Someone needs to think about the kids and get off their high horse.

This is outrageous what Hudsonville Fair is doing.
