Our now former Chief of police was released from duty and the residents of Merkel are requesting to have him back in office as our chief of police. He is a kind understanding person who not only upheld the law, but also went out of his way off duty to help anyone who needed help. Please hear our request and bring back a BIG part of Merkel. Chris is a great guy,I have never heard anyone in our town say anything but good stuff about him.not sure what or if he did anywrong.i will say this he knew the wife and I was having probs and the man would stop to check on us.great guy.he has my vote and I back him up all the way.
He's a good cop and an even better police chief. He doesn't lie or cut corners, but he is compassionate and has a heart for the downtrodden. If he did something "wrong" it was probably a mistake or something overlooked, he is a busy man. God will see him through this time of trouble and everyone will see that he is a good man and great cop. God bless you, Ortiz.
Mr.Ortiz and his family are amazing good people. My bed ridden sister has received a lot of help from them from Christmas gifts for her children down to showing up at her home and checking on her every time she has been sent to the hospital which is on average 2-4 times a month. You need more officers in that town. One man can not do it all alone.
Chris Ortiz has done amazing things for the police department and Merkel community! He shouldn’t be punished for helping Merkel to progress!
He is a good guy, they have responded several times when we needed him at Sonic.

Chief Ortiz was a great and generous and kind man. He would help anyone. He did a great job as chief. I am disappointed in this but everybody makes mistakes and, although some will disagree, I believe everyone deserves a second chance.
