This petition has been altered for the main reasons and concerns below. The same objective is still in place and that's to 'Save The Greyhound'

Earlier this month on the 7th March the Village Inn celebrated its last day of trading. Thursday 15th March 2018 the Village Inn/Greyhound pub had an open day as it was up for lease/rent. However by 4.30pm the next day Friday 16th the brewery BDM notified me that the directors had taken and accepted 'an offer they couldn’t refuse' meaning this pub and all its land is to be sold. The BDM isn't fully equipped with all the information on the intentions of the new buyer but heavily suggested that the building and land was worth more to a developer as flats/houses than as the original status of a pub/restaurant. This very idea is very disheartening.

To bring it all to light the increasingly common denominator in pub closures has been to large chains finding it more lucrative to sell or redevelop premises for other purposes, such as housing or supermarkets, than to continue running them as pubs.

As a community we've lost the golf course just across the road to fulfil the potential request and requirements of extra housing in the area. Do we really need more of our local heritage being ripped apart. We need to remember that in strength by numbers it may be saved because of the “historic or architectural value or because they make a positive contribution to their community”.

If the new buyers intentions are to keep it as a pub/restaurant then that's great not only visually as it's a beautiful building but for the local heritage and traditional architectural presence.

As a well known landmark and eatery that's brought many fond memories to hundreds of locals and visitors over the years.

If they decide to knock the building down and redevelop I'm sure we'll all feel the loss as a community.

As a means of slowing down or (fingers crossed) stopping this redevelopment I stand by my original signature petition in aim of saving/bringing back the Village Inn/Greyhound.

Step 1)

By coming together as a community we can apply for a 'asset of community value' order being put on the premises. It gives the community a 6mth breather to try and raise the capital required ourselves. We as a community can group together and effectively buy the pub as a joint venture.

Effectively all we need is a community group of 21 or more members to file the ACV.

Even if the community did not bid for the property it will remain on the list of 'assets of community value' list for five years.

THIS NEXT SECTION IS WHAT IM SERIOUSLY INTERESTED IN!!!

Just the fact it's on the list means it will be treated as 'material consideration' for planning purposes - meaning this will be considered if a change of 'use' is proposed.

By signing this petition your fully supporting the campaign to save this building from potential demolition.

Step 2 is yet unknown.

I've never fought to save a building before so any advice would be greatfully received.
