Final supporters
For the past twenty or so years, Laurentian Engineering has taken pride in their traditions and celebrated 'Purple Day' for all of the first year engineering students. This day gives students a chance to get to know their classmates, their seniors and their traditions. It is what makes the engineering program such a tight-knit community, and it is something every student looks forward to each year.
The day is voluntary for all students, and is run by student volunteers and student donations. This year, the event was proposed to be away from campus in order to cut down on noise and disruption. The most important detail (the purple dye) was also remove in place of washable purple spray. We, the students, have made extensive efforts to try and appease the schools administration.
However, the entire idea of this day is being challenged by the administration on the basis of "blue green algae at the beach location, lack of lifeguards, and lack of security".
This day is a tradition, and it will be supervised by multiple adult students. We request your support in keeping this day alive as it is the one thing that makes every Laurentian Engineer... a Laurentian Engineer.

If I'd known there would be a possibility of cancellation, I probably would've gone to OttawaU, where I'd originally applied. But I gave LU a shot because it's close to home and I was told the Eng. program was good. But I guess LU has our money now so they don't really care about our happiness.
As a proud Laurentian Engineer who LOVED my own Purple Day and volunteered in 4 years of Purple Days, I'm beyond dissapointed in Laurentian University for this. If I were back in grade twelve picking a university for engineering, this would be a deal breaker.
As the hardest undergrad degree, engineers need to stick together and one way to show a sense of community are the traditions we have and continue. As an engineering student, I've experienced how my school's traditions have tried to be changed, and how we've stood in the face of adversity to keep our eng family together
This was a huge part of my first year, and something other engineering school respect Laurentian for. The school should be supporting our students for their frosh week, not killing the whole thing. Other schools manage an entire frosh week with more students than we have with no issues.
I'm not one to drink much, and I generally don't enjoy parties. But purple is designed to make everyone feel insecure so that they all have the courage to talk to each other and meet new people.
Bring Back purple dayyyyy!!!!!!
Traditions must live on. I'm a biology student but I know how much it matters to give eng students some motivation and pride.

This is a national engineering tradition that carries allot of weight. It ties back to the engineers who sank with the titanic, trying to kept it afloat as long as possible so others could live. I really hope Laurentian alows this great tradition to live on.
