This is a national engineering tradition that carries allot of weight. It ties back to the engineers who sank with the titanic, trying to kept it afloat as long as possible so others could live. I really hope Laurentian alows this great tradition to live on.

Traditions must live on. I'm a biology student but I know how much it matters to give eng students some motivation and pride.

Campus security accompanied our purple day and many of us are already trained in first aid thus coupled with the fact that we are adults without children, safety should not be a problem

A tradition. Not obligatory to participate - an excellent option for a new time. Class of 1997 - BEng Mining.

Purple day has been a tradition for over two decades at LU. Why has the administration chosen this year to ban it?

If I'd known there would be a possibility of cancellation, I probably would've gone to OttawaU, where I'd originally applied. But I gave LU a shot because it's close to home and I was told the Eng. program was good. But I guess LU has our money now so they don't really care about our happiness.

Purple day is one that I will never forget, both as frosh and as a volunteer. We took care of each other. We looked out for each other. It was the greatest bonding experience in my life. Administrators do not know the value of that bond, of the benefits it's pays for years and years. They are afraid of the value of a potential law suit. Since when did education and institutions become all about the bottom line? How many other Schools of Engineering ban Purple Day? None. I see them in the news this time every year.

As a proud Laurentian Engineer who LOVED my own Purple Day and volunteered in 4 years of Purple Days, I'm beyond dissapointed in Laurentian University for this. If I were back in grade twelve picking a university for engineering, this would be a deal breaker.

Carleton University, Aerospace Engineering class of 2018.
Purpling is what first got involved in the Engineering community during my first year at Carleton. Since I have become an active member of the community. While my experience stems from another campus, pride and commradery of engineering knows no bounds and I shared by all. Stay Purple.
