Hello everyone! Please read my story and sign my petition that you dont mind your tax dollars helping a blind/vision impaired child learn braille !!! For those of you who don't know here’s a little history for you. My son Tucker was born with birth defects in his eyes causing him to be blind/ visually impaired. Tucker is 7 and was born with microphalmia of the left eye (this basically means small under developed eye) and bilateral optic nerve colobomas. He is blind in his left eye, has a detached retina that cannot be fixed, and glaucoma. He gets drops in that eye twice a day for the glaucoma and is at risk of losing the eye itself. The coloboma in his right eye has caused vision loss. Right now he is at risk for retina detachment, glaucoma and more visual loss in that eye. Most who meet him never pick up on it because its all he’s ever known and he does amazing with the sight that he has. He has been learning braille and cane skills since he was 3 years old. Tucker attended kindergarten at Brookville but struggled with many areas so we decided to try and home school him for 1st grade and he has flourished!!! He does amazing with the personal one on one education that I am able to give him. He struggles with anxiety amongst other behaviors stemming from his visual impairment and being able to stay home has been such an amazing thing for him. Last year the district made the decision to allow us to continue to see his braille and o&m (orientation and mobility) instructor even though we are home schooled. (According to pa law they do not have to do this) But for the new school year coming up they have taken away these services unless we put him back into the public school system which we are refusing to do. There are no services, aid, or help of any kind in our area for a blind/vision child like Tucker to be taught braille or o&m besides through the school. He has for the last 2 years been able to receive summer training through the borough of the blind but that is to help him catch up on any braille that he may be behind in. Keep us in your prayers and again please consider sharing. Thank you and God bless !!!
Note!!! there is no need to donate after signing. that does not go towards us or even the school its this websites way of getting money to help keep it running. so just x out of the sign in area :)
**** Im sorry to inform everyone that the district has made the decision to discontinue services for Tucker. Please continue sharing as I plan to continue advocating !!!

You and your husband continue to pay school taxes despite the fact that you home school (at your own expense). Tucker should be given the same special services as a home schooler that he would as a student at the public school!
Tucker is an amazing child and has flourished in spite of the obstacles he has had to overcome. Because we are a small town and do not have services available in larger cities, it is imperative that he be able to continue this program. As a taxpayer, I am more than willing to support this program; I pray it continues.
I personally am an occupational therapist assistant and some people do not realize the importance of these programs to make sure these children are able to live and perform like a child should.
Without these services, Tucker will deteriorate. He has a right to live a normal life, just like anybody else in this community. This family cannot afford to waste their time traveling 2 hours to Pittsburgh (and 2 hours back) when they can be spending that valuable time at home teaching their son.
As a parent of a child with serious vision issues I can tell you how important having services at a young age are -- my daughter had sercices at school through the eighth grade and as a result she is an independent adult
thats not fair to blind people who need to read braille.
Great to hear that you're having such success with home schooling.

My daughter severely visually impaired. She had to go to Pittsburgh to the school for blind children because Brookville had nothing for her. That was 20 years ago but they should be able to do much better now.
