The Ohio Division of Natural Resources finally backed down and scrapped the proposed bobcat trapping season. They clearly heard us loud and clear because this reckless plan is officially dead. Keep your eyes open to ensure they do not try to sneak this back onto the agenda later.

This petition is asking the Ohio Division of Natural Resources to extend comment period of the proposed changes that allows a trapping season for bobcats in Ohio, specifically in the Southeastern portion of the state. I hereby disagree with the proposal to have a trapping season, and am asking for scientific backing of the proposed open season and population numbers, and am asking to have a meeting in the Southeast Ohio Region. I ultimately disapprove the proposed rule change 1501:31-15-17 “SEASONS FOR GAME BIRDS, GAME QUADRUPEDS AND FURBEARING ANIMALS.

The Ohio Division of Natural Resources cannot ignore this surge of opposition any longer. They think they can push this bobcat trapping season through in the dark but we are making it impossible for them to hide.

I've lived at the edge of a woods in S.E. Ohio for 40 years. While I've seen many deer in these woods, I've never seen a bobcat. A season for killing bobcats is inappropriate.

We can't even say for sure we know what the bobcat population in OH is like yet to be able to properly regulate a trapping season. Not to mention large cat populations are self-regulating and overpopulation does not pose a threat.

We have a trail cam and in 4 years, have only seen a bobcat once. Fairly freq coyotes and foxes. There is an abundance of rabbits and deer. Please save the bobcats. At least find out how many there are and pay attention to how ecological systems work. Many mistakes like this have been made for many years. Can't we learn?

Bobcats only came off the endangered species list in Ohio a few years ago. It is too soon to start trapping them. 60 bobcats for a small population is too many!

I support efforts to review the status of trapping bobcats in Ohio. As an Ohio University Alumni member, I support protecting Ohio’s bobcats and OU’s mascot.

In a little over 10 yrs ago these animals were considered endangered. Now all of a sudden they aren’t? And you have people deciding this that have a direct conflict of interest. Please allow more time.

We took them off the endangered species list, now we are going to put them back on after these killings. Stop the killings!

Why punish the bobcats for human encroachment of their habitat? They have a place and a purpose in the ecosystem just like the rest of us.
