In 2008 the Elon town Council created a 20-year “Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Lighting Plan” that includes plans for bike lanes, bike paths, sidewalks, and lighting. Over two years later, there have been no visible steps taken to create safer pedestrian and cyclist conditions in the town of Elon. In the past two years there have been several cyclists hit by cars that have resulted in serious injuries and even death. These accidents could have been avoided if Elon’s infrastructure had included safer bike conditions. For the safety of cyclists and pedestrians, the decrease in traffic congestion, improved air quality, and for a healthier environment, sign this petition to support the acceleration of the town of Elon’s “Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Lighting Plan.”
