A recent accident involving a car leaving the elementary school and a 14-year-old pedestrian at the corner of Middle and Island, the intersection acting as the primary turn to Montevallo Elementary School, has magnified the need for more clearly designated safety measures for pedestrians, cyclists, and others at this major intersection. The crosswalk at Montevallo Middle School is a problem spot also. Other crossings or other pedestrian/cyclist areas that represent concerns should be noted here also. One of the great aspects of Montevallo living is that this town is extremely walkable, and that represents a boost to health and happiness, but this cannot be maintained without city, county, and state support for making our walking paths and intersections safe for children and adults. Please sign this petition in support of safer Montevallo streets and to show that you support the healthy lives of walkers and bikers. We ask for better designation for that crosswalk, implied by the relatively new sidewalk and the Montevallo Parks Trail delineation.
