According to Berkshire Local School District's Bylaw 2431:

"The Board of Education recognizes the value to the students of the District and to the community of a program of interscholastic athletics for both boys and girls as an integral part of the total school experience.”

Soccer currently is one of 10 different sports offered for Berkshire High School students. It is also just one of four sports not offered at the junior high level.

A growing community youth soccer program is a strong indicator that the high school soccer programs will be viable for years to come, which also leads to an immediate need to offer the sport at the junior high level, for the same reasons football, volleyball, cross country, basketball, wrestling and track are offered for seventh and eighth grade students.

Over 70 Berkshire children participate in the fall program and over 100 compete in the spring session.

Continued participation strengthens the program at all levels and fosters a sense of school and community pride.

It is essential at this time to add a co-ed junior high soccer team to the list of teams offered in sports already approved by the Berkshire Local Schools Board of Education.

The undersigned hereby support this proposal.
