Belmont needs to change their parking regulations to be more accommodating to the student body that actually lives on the campus and they need to be more open to changing their operations to accommodate all of the "Bruin Community"- not just the visitors. The ticket system in place does not allow for warnings to be given out, instead student and staff are ticketed the first time they violate rules that are not stated unless one navigates through the tricky website (meaning through 12 tabs about parking) only to find out they are being told they really can't park on campus unless they commute. Belmont University purposes a "escort system" in which an officer is deployed to escort you to class or other campus locations. Not only is this system reliant on officer availability but also leave students stranded at the destination as they now have no way to efficiently get off campus after the class/event in which they attended ends. Parking rules have not been updated since new parking garages have been in created which means students are unclear where they can park. Without a warning system the university uses their violation as a source of income and corporal punishment. This petition simply asks that the committee that is over parking regulations considers more student/ staff friendly parking options and is more open to meeting with students about this issue. Got a ticket when I accidentally left my car on a surface lot. The day it snowed. 735, 5 minutes after we're allowed there, I was ticketed and got to unbury and unfreeze a parking ticket from my windshield which made me late to class
I think the new parking garage in the DAC has enough parking for people to be able to park closer to their residence halls, especially when it's cold outside. For example, people living in Potter shouldn't have to walk all the way from TK with grocery bags in the cold when there is a closer option for them.
I am so tired of having my car all the way in TK when my dorm (Potter) is in the middle of campus. It is both dangerous and time-consuming to carry my music gear or luggage when we could simply park in the Johnson Center or Curb Garage.
The parking situation is one of the few things I hate about Belmont. They give out tickets like Bed, Bath, & Beyond gives out coupons just to make extra money as if my $40,000 a year doesn't buy enough fountains for the school. They need to re-think parking designation completely. Still love it here tho <3
I completely agree. Not only is the parking situation bad, but the spots themselves are astronomically tiny. I know that there have been at least three instances where I have tried to park my truck in a parking spot, but the spot was simply too small for my Silverado to fit. I would love to see some change be made.
I've gotten a ticket for parking in an EMPTY garage to run up to the caf to grab a take out meal. If we park on the lower levels, what's the problem?
I live in Wright hall and I have to park in the parking garage under dickens. It's at least a ten minute walk, not to mention very sketchy at night.

The area by the library and music buildings is almost exclusively visitor parking and is monitored relentlessly. It is very difficult for music students to park.
