The passage of this regulation would significantly hinder youth participation in agriculture programs such as 4-H and FFA. Young individuals who have dedicated years to their poultry projects would be compelled to sell their animals. These projects play a crucial role in imparting essential life lessons related to maturity, responsibility, patience, commitment, and accountability. Additionally, these restrictions would have detrimental effects on small local farms, as numerous Polk County residents depend on breeding and selling poultry for meat, eggs, and byproducts. With the rising cost of eggs, many families rely on poultry at home to provide sustenance. For countless individuals, agriculture represents not only their livelihood but also their passion.
Let us unite in our efforts to prevent the implementation of these restrictions.
Property owners should be allowed to have up to 10 hens. They pay taxes and deserve the right to use their property.

My family resides in Polk County and my daughter shows chickens for the youth fair and state fair. If we could not keep chickens she would probably not participate in either of these awesome and educational events. Her school does not have 4H or FFA so keeping of the animal is up to us.

This is an extremely important project for all the kids involved in 4H & FFA to bring all their hard work to fruition.
