Due to recent events at Philip Barbour High School, backpacks in most Harrison County Schools have been banned. Our student body should be allowed to carry backpacks to classes. We as Lincoln High Schools student body would rather have our personal belongings checked everyday, other than not having the right to carry a backpack or a oversized purse. We may not have many classes in a day but most of our classes require us to have our books a separate binder a notebook and pencils. and that is a lot for a student to carry without having something to put and carry our supplies in. Not only would it be more convenient but more students come prepared for class knowing everything is in their backpack.

I think they should be aloud if you are going to bring something you shouldn't you will do it either way what soon you will be making them wear pants with no pockets
I think its ridiculous to make us keep our bags in our lockers. For one, someone can just as easily caring a weapon in their pants or shirt. Two, our lockers aren't even big enough for the book themselves, let alone the backpacks.
Honestly i would rather be searched than not have a backpack If the school cant afford to pay for metal detectors, they could always collect donations and do some type of thing to raise money for them.
Kids carry too many things. Backpacks are a necessity. We are making it too hard & unmanagable for our kids daily school routines of going back & forth from class to class if they are to carry everything with them. If they can't have backpacks, then teachers need to keep everything they need in their classrooms.
As a girl I find that it would be very embarrassing to have to go to my locker and get out a tanpon or pad then carry it to the bathroom. If I had my bag I wouldn't worry about that though and it wouldn't be embarrassing because it would be hidden inside my purse/bag and not in my locker.
This is stupid
The children need their backpacks. They barely have time to get to each class and no time to get to their lockers.

I personally do not believe that making students keep their backpacks in their locker is going to stop potential school violence. I believe that this issue needs looked at from a statistical stand point, out of the school shootings that have happened over the last 20 years, how many of the weapons were brought to school in a backpack? The only way to prevent a weapon from entering the school is with metal detectors. It is a society problem that the youth of today as well as adults think that violence is the way to solve their problems.
