On Jan.4,2007 my 6 yr old son Asa was hit and killed by a school bus as he crossed Scottwood Rd. at Coburg Rd, right in front of an Elementary school. By law traffic must reduce their speed there from 25 mph to 20 mph. The traffic on Scottwood Rd. going east and west does not have to stop. Many people exceed the limit even during the restricted hours. If there was a 4-way stop there then people who speed down the street would have to stop and look. Breaking their speed right at the edge of the school zone. Having a stop sign there at that intersection would have saved my son\'s life. It would make that intersection safer for the children walking to that school. Even though my son was killed there, traffic hasn\'t slowed down. Careless people are still speeding. Please help me to save our children from needless accidents. This won\'t bring Asa back but it may save another mother from the heartache I have been going through.
I have been hearing from so many of you who remember this intersection and feel the same heavy weight that I do. It is overwhelming to see that people still care about keeping these streets safe for children even after all this time. I am working on getting our request in front of the right people and I am just so thankful to have you with me.

Seeing the count tick up like this leaves me genuinely stunned because I only ever hoped for a few neighbors to notice. This momentum belongs entirely to the people who care about these kids as much as I do.

I sign this petition in honor of my childhood/school buddy Asa. I was one of the girls who got on the bus with him at scottwood; I think about him often.. and pray for family. I'm now 20 years old and I still can feel the pain I felt as a fifth grader. I'll continue to pray for your family and I pray the city will take action!

I drive down Scottwood every single day and the speeding is just insane. nobody follows the school zone rules. it needs to be a 4 way stop already before someone else gets hurt.
