Greetings all

As many of you know we are opening Creative Grounds DC, an art gallery and coffee bar in the Bloomingdale neighborhood of Washington, DC. We expressed our interest in doing so roughly 6 months ago and while we have made tremendous progress, we have learned to embrace the process with patience and grace.

Here we are 6 months later and we need your support. We were recently informed that we must go before the Board of zoning to request a special exception/variance to open this commercial space in a residential district. It has been our experience that our neighbors are excited to have this addition to the community. So, we are asking for your signatures of support.

We are collecting signatures from neighbors/residents within a 200 ft radius of the site, @1822 North Capitol Street NW. So, if you live on Seaton, O, S, T, R, 1st, 2nd, Randolph, North Capitol, Rhode Island, Lincoln, live in the Bloomingdale, Shaw and Ledroit neighborhoods, please show your support by signing your name.

Thank you,

Feel free to contact Asmara at [email protected] if you have any questions.

Updates

August 28, 2017

We have finalized our formal presentation for the upcoming Board of Zoning Adjustment hearing. Legal counsel is currently reviewing our supporting documentation to ensure we meet all requirements for the special exception.

August 28, 2017

The volume of support from neighboring residents has provided the necessary leverage for our upcoming zoning board testimony. We are now finalizing our presentation materials to ensure our request for a special exception is clearly articulated during the formal hearing.

I've lived half a block north of this space for the past two and a half years. It's been vacant the whole time. I'd love to see a coffee shop there.

As an 11 year resident on the 100 block of Rhode Island Ave NW with two elementary school aged kids, I support Creative Grounds DC at 1822 North Capitol St NW.

As the ANC Commissioner for the area in which Creative Gounds DC is located, I believe Creative Grounds is an innovative commercial venture that is compatible with the Bloomingdale residential neighborhood, that will diversify its commerical sector by actively serving both children and adults.

There is not a lot of programming for children within walking distance in Bloomingdale and we are very excited for Common Grounds to serve as a family-oriented center for exploration and learning.

Please allow this special exception/ variance For Creative Grounds DC. This is exactly the type of business that needs to be allowed to do business along this emerging and changing North Capital Main Street corridor.

I live on the unit block of S St NW (towards N Capitol). I walk by your location almost every day and can't wait for it to open! It would be great to have a coffee shop/artist space close by!
