Dollar General is requesting a variance to a zoning law in the village that requires a building to be 50 feet from the midpoint in the Lime Kiln Creek that runs through Route 36 in Arkport. They are requesting to build 35 feet from the midpoint. This law is in place to protect the creek's natural environment. This site is also in proximity to the Marsh Ditch Creek. Both of these creeks have native brook trout, which will be effected by the building. The proposed storefront would occupy 8035 State Route 36 in Arkport.

We say NO TO DOLLAR GENERAL to keep the small town atmosphere alive in Arkport. There may be some tempting benefits to a new store coming to town. Keep in mind that with Dollar General coming to town, other communities have seen a 30% loss in their locally owned businesses. Our locally owned businesses will be impacted.

There are many reasons to say NO TO DOLLAR GENERAL:

-too close to the creek

-a very dangerous traffic pattern, especially when high school sporting events begin

-impacts flooding

-potential impact on Shurfine and 7/11- our locally owned stores

-big box store in our village with NO interest in local matters

-property values in area decrease

Sign this petition to let our village officials know that we do not want a Dollar General to open in the Village of Arkport.

By signing this petition, I certify that I am an Arkport Central School District resident, or frequent visitor to the impacted area and stand against the building of a Dollar General in Arkport. I vow to continue supporting our locally owned businesses.
