The business owners and residents of Bedford and Bedford's Historic Downtown District strongly object to a Dollar General being developed at the building located at 647 Broadway Ave (former Medic Building). We do not object to Dollar General on principle, we only urge them to find a location that is not in the Historic District of Bedford.

We the residents and business owners in Bedford's Historic District are enthusiastic about filling empty storefronts, however, not at the cost of diminishing the charm and viability of the Historic Distric. Our downtown is what distinguishes Bedford from other towns and we are proud to have our businesses here. Adding a bargain discounter will not bring customers in from other communities to shop and patronize local businesses. Rather it will detract from the charm and aesthetic of the city in general.

We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our leaders to act now to do anything in your power to stop Dollar General from opening a location in Bedford’s Historic District.

I have spent the last few days walking these streets and talking with neighbors who share the same fear about losing the heart of Bedford. The silence from the development office is telling but we are not going anywhere.

Seeing this kind of momentum feels surreal because I remember when I was the only person worrying about the future of Broadway Avenue. The pride I feel for our beautiful town is shared by so many of you and that realization makes the hard work ahead feel possible.

Most cities (including Richfield) would not permit a retail such as Dollar General get approved to locate in a Historic District .

We need to keep downtown Bedford with the small business owner shops. There are plenty of other empty buildings that can be used for a dollar General. We need to keep downtown with its air of hometown closeness and charm. Let's not impact the small mom and pop shops with a corporate company.

Bedford should be reaching out to business that appeal to the image Bedford is trying to achieve. In the heart of Bedford is a beautiful historic district that has received national accolades. Since this is the jewel of Bedford, do we really want a cornerstone business to be that of a deep discount "Dollar Store". Not that these types of stores aren't important, but not in downtown.

You can either keep the character of 'historic Bedford', and build a revival around the community. Or you can 'dummy down' the neighborhood, and bring in a symbol of every other failed commercial district. This is a terrible use of that space, and I urge you to rethink this decision. Don't bring Dollar General, (or any other cheap, discount chain store, for that matter), into the Historic Downtown Bedford district.

Please protect the beauty of the historic downtown by being mindful of what businesses open there. We need to be progressive, not regressive. We need to focus on specialty businesses that other communities travel to (Half Priced Books, etc.). No one will be driving to our wonderful city to go to our.... dollar store. It's an eyesore and frankly unnecessary- We have dollar stores throughout this city and those adjacent to it- We do not need it in the historic district.

Homeowner on Lincoln for 6 years. I believe our beautiful Broadway would be incredibly demeaned by having a Dollar General right there. It's bad enough that metro pcs is in the corner. I don't object to a Dollar General, just not in that location.

I agree, bring a historical type of business in the area like a Woodworth wow! I don't know where I reach out and pull that from, but you get my idea I hope. Good luck!!!
