An announcement was made last week by Carmarthenshire County Council to close Annedd Residential Home and demolish the building. The home is to be replaced with a facility providing 24 extra care flats, 14 for individuals with dementia. This facility will NOT be suitable for existing residents who will have to move to alternative residential homes away from their family and friends. It is highly unlikely that any of the residents will be suitable for re-housing in the new facility. Staff, are primarily concerned regarding the welfare of the residents whilst having to worry about their future employment prospects.
In order to campaign against the closure of Annedd a committee has been established to fight for the rights of the residents, staff and local community.
We are appealing to the local authority to prevent this closure and to the Welsh Assembly to provide sufficient funding to keep this home open.
Whilst the home is to be replaced by another facility for the elderly, it will not be considered as a residential home. The exra care flats facility intended to be built is a good thing, but not at the expense of a residential home. There should be sufficient funding for both!!
We are the future for our elderly and we should protect their rights and respect what they have done for us in years past.
The momentum behind this fight proves that Carmarthenshire County Council cannot just bulldoze our community and expect us to stay silent. Their reckless plan to displace our elders is falling apart as more people realize the cost of this so-called progress. We are going to make it impossible for them to ignore the lives they are trying to dismantle.

Disgraceful. These people have paid taxes their whole lives only to be treated like trash by the council. Keep annedd open.

My auntie is in there and it would destroy her to be moved now. She has lived there for years and considers the staff family. Leave them alone.

Absolutely shameful. Why move vulnerable old people out of their home just to build something else? They deserve better than this.
