The city finally agreed to update the bylaws and provide the resources we demanded. It has been a long road and I am drained but the outcome makes the effort worth it. Keep an eye on the council to ensure they follow through with these changes.

This petition is for The City of Swift Current to offer more resources and update their bylaws surrounding animal rights. The City has bylaws concerning the "licensing, regulating, and controlling of animals" but does not have bylaws concerning how these animals are being treated in return. The "Animal Control Bylaw" shown in the City of Swift Current's BYLAW NO.1-1991 was made 26 years ago. Other cities like Saskatoon and Yorkton are doing more to protect the rights of animals. BYLAW NO. 5048 found on the City of Saskatoon website discusses how the SPCA is required by the city to “facilitate and provide for the prevention of cruelty to animals and their protection and relief therefrom and to inculcate the principles of and the desire for more humane treatment of animals”. It would be beneficial to the community to help the Swift Current SPCA have more resources for concerned citizens. It would also be beneficial for the current bylaws to be updated to include what citizens are to do when an animal is in distress. Seeing the momentum behind this update effort feels heavy and necessary when the current bylaws have been ignored for so long. I am exhausted by the state of things but watching this grow gives me the resolve to keep pushing for these changes.

We need to protect ever animal . People who mistreat or hurt animals should be jailed.
Research and Promote TNR (Trap Neuter Release) for community cats (aka feral cats).
Animals need us humans to be their voices, furthermore their lives should have the same rights as human lives when it comes to abuse or neglect.
I support this petition to protect the animals in Swift Current. Hopefully this petition changes that!
I would like the system updated so abuse of the by-laws is not allowed. And wording of the barking by-law changed to reflect issues where dogs are incessantly barking or nuisance barking. Not just barking and doesn't include just barking at a stranger parked in the owners driveway. By-law officers are not permitted in this province to be on private property which they did in my case.
Y'all better love animals better

Animals are vulnerable and it is not enough to license,e regulate, and control. It is the people you really have to control as they are thrones caring for the animals and many abuse or neglect them. Please update your regulations so that they take into account the well being of all animals.
