The University of York History Department made a mistake in contracts issued to some Graduate Teaching Assistants, paying some people for the 7 hours mandatory 'Introduction to Teaching and Learning' training and not paying others.
Attempting to correct this, the Department instead decided to give GTAs extra work that is outside of the scope of their contracts rather than simply pay those who were not paid for this training.
The Department's mistake should not disadvantage GTAs, either in terms of time or financially.
We sign this petition to:
- Express our disappointment over the unequal application of policies and pay across the GTA cohort;
- Object to the Department attempting to correct its mistake by giving GTAs more work; and
- Call upon the Department to pay GTAs equally.
