Paramedics working in and around Portland, OR are experiencing more assaults and more dangerous working conditions than ever before. The process of getting vests approved is complicated, and we need your help! Many of us feel so unsafe now, we are willing to buy our own vests. Sign this petition to show your support for the employee union and Upper Management to help us stay safe! Sign to say you want us to be allowed to wear our own uniform vests, and create a "vest allowance" to help us afford them.

The administration has acknowledged the volume of this petition and agreed to an initial meeting regarding protective gear policies. My team is preparing the formal proposal for a vest allowance to present during these upcoming discussions.

My dad was a paramedic that helped set up a medical first responder team that worked alongside SWAT in one of the towns we lived in. This stuff is seriously important. I can't imagine if he didn't come home one day because he wasn't given a vest to protect him.

One way to think of it is, more resources are used paying for the first responders' medical bills than paying for the vest. It's an investment that every city should be willing to put down, for the sake of their EMS' well-being.

I live in the greater Portland area and have seen the steady rise in violence with no constructive enforcement action from a seemingly oblivious city government. Please give the EMS protection that they deserve, before it is too late.

This absolutely needs to happen. As a law enforcement officer, I daily see how a seemingly controlled situation can easily turn bad, even when paramedics are on scene. There's no reason that paramedics should have any less protection than we LEOs.

I can understand not having the funding to buy vests for every paramedic in Portland, that could take years to secure, but if medics want to buy or bring or share their own vests, let them. To have a policy against it is to have a policy FOR injury.

I believe AMR should provide bullet proof/stab proof protection for all EMT's and paramedics. Allowing your employees to purchase these with their yearly equipment/uniform allowance would create a safer work environment for all employees.

They should be kept as safe as any other responder!

All of our first responders should have the proper protective equipment.
