The school reversed the ban on Nicholas Deakins shoes today. Thank you for pushing back on this policy shift. Keep an eye on the uniform code as we move forward to ensure these rules remain reasonable.

Thankyou firstly for taking the the time to view the online petition.

As many of you know, parents of students at The Morley Academy were sent an email with a link with regards to the new uniform policies.

After having conversations with a few other parents it has become apparent I am not the only parent against the rule of the wear of Nicholas Deakins.

This brand and other brands with this style of shoe have previously been worn at schools across the country for many years with no proven issues, so as parents I believe we should have had an explaination as to why they are no longer "suitable".

Many children have to walk to and from school daily in all weather conditions, making this style of shoe extremely durable and hard wearing. In my opinion these shoes are smart and fit well with the school uniform.

No other school has branded this style of shoe unfit, so why should students of The Morley Academy be forced to wear other shoes that are not as durable for the school day when there has been clearly no issues for the last known nine years and beyond!

If you are in agreement with the above statement please feel free to sign the online petition and share on any social media sites, so as many parents as possible can view, sign and share.

This petition will be shown at a meeting with Mrs Griffiths in the forthcoming weeks.

With regards and thankyou again.

Wow I wore these boots over 25 years ago, to school the style hasn't really changed much. There a very well made pair of boots, hard wearing n long lasting as we walked to and from school. This was a Leeds shop, and the boots are not cheap I'm shocked and stunned that your not letting children wear these hard wearing boots.

3 children , all wore Deakins. durable, weather resistant and protect ankles . now youngest will be in slip on "dolly " shoes. wet socks in bad weather, more chance of slipping. I cannot understand the logic in this rule.

Totally agree with this. The or teachers say the kids have to wear trainers to support ankles the head says wear shoes that don't support ankles deakins or other brands the children need good shoes that last and give good support they are still growing and bones need support

I'm a recent single parent and bought my son these shoes at the end of last term in the sale before the change of rule.i cannot afford another pair of shoes so I guess my son will be in isolation for all of year 10 great for his education to sit and do work packs and his social skills

Deakins have lasted my son a whole year! Others only lasted few months. Bit more expensive but last longer well worth money and a smart shoe fitting in with school uniform

I've worn ND shoes for about nearly 20 years and find the fashionable and smart. It should also be noted that the founder and owner of Nicholas Deakins (Craig Nicholas Tate) is a former pupil of the school. I hope you get the 1000 signatures.

I don't see how wearing these shows affect your ability to learn.

The Deakins are a good solid shoe. My daughter walks to school in all weathers these shoes are ideal and are value for money. My other daughter who has since left the academy also wore these shoes it was never a problem then and it shouldn't be now! What are our kids supposed to walk to school in, no boots allowed they have to remove at school gates the Deakin is a good alternative still not ideal when there is snow on the ground but better than an open shoe and as there is no facility for storing winter boots it really shouldn't be a problem! Parents cannot afford to keep replacing flimsy shoes, Deakins are sensible, support the foot and ankle well. These shoes should be encouraged and the health &safety of our children taken into consideration!
