While we students understand the impact of the big beautiful bill, we don’t understand the decision to eliminate 24hr access to studios. As artist enrolled in college we are reliant on the school providing us space to create and learn at our own times outside of school. We students are reliant on the various spaces SAIC has promised us when enrolling, some of these being materials such as looms, ventilated spaces, printers, and much more that are not available in our personal living spaces. Many of us students commute so the expectation for us to continue our rigorous work can be virtually impossible as we are unable to transport all our work to and from school. For the price we pay for this institution it is disrespectful to the students and professors to eliminate the overnight access. We will only have a total of three hours a day (broken up between morning and evening) to complete tasks while other classes are going on. Many times students are unable to use certain spaces because of classes occupying the day so they resort to working at night, something that will be taken away.

This institution cost enough as it is, the elimination of overnight access will rely on students to find ways to make outside of the resources we were promised. This financial decision in response to lack of funding due to the big beautiful bill will end up being a financial burden on students as they try to find space and resources to use outside of the campus to ensure they make groundbreaking work.

Please sign this petition if you share this frustration.

I'm a fashion student, and my creations are heavily reliant on the classroom and the sewing machine. If I lose the opportunity to work at night, I don't think I can guarantee the completion and quality of my work. I absolutely need the time to work at night.

This is one of the main reasons that our son decided to attend SAIC and he frequently uses the facilities well past 10:30pm. We are absolutely FURIOUS with this incredibly short sighted decision and will not be quiet about it after having paid hundreds of thousands in tuition.

Daughter is starting senior year and needs studios to complete work as she cannot use oil paint in her apartment. This is some major stinking B-S, and not the fault of the school — but SAIC needs to meet the needs of their students and cut corners elsewhere.

I have never once completed a final without using the studio after hours. Having a job which schedules shifts during the day as well as school means that often, the later evening is the only time i can work in the studio during the week.

I dont understand how sculture, fiber or ceramics students are supposed to complete their work without overnight acess. I dont believe that cutting our access to the facilities we pay for was the only option.

animation classes are always in use during the day which leaves animation students with little to no time in the studio. This is especially bad because animation requires special expensive equipment which the students don't have and are not able to take home from school either.

I agree fully. This needs to change and I am requesting, no- demanding, that the buildings bring back the 24 hour time window. Thank you.
