The council confirmed today that they will rename the arena in honor of Alfie. Seeing his name on that building will finally give him the legacy he deserves. I am overwhelmed by the support you gave to make this happen.

Final supporters
Alfred (Alfie) Gregg was a pillar in our community. He spent decades of his life in service to families, children and youth in Brighton and those also visiting our hockey and skating centre. He was a coach, a mentor and a friend to many. His kindness and generosity made it possible for many families to afford the ability to enroll their children in hockey. He was someone you could always count on to be there.The guy who could get the perfect edge; always with a smile, a kind word and a twinkle in his eye. It is only fitting and right that our arena should be renamed the Alfred Gregg Memorial Arena in commemoration of his passion, dedication and service to our community.

Seeing the count climb toward five hundred reminds me how many lives Alfie touched with his kindness at that rink. We need a final surge right now to show the council that our community truly wants his name on those doors.

I keep thinking about how Alfie would be blushing if he saw how many of you stepped up to honor his memory. We are nearing the hundred signature mark and I need you to help me push past it before we present this to the council. Please send this link to your neighborhood group chats so we can show them how much Alfie meant to all of us.

My brother devoted his time and most of his life to hockey, baseball and the children of this community. This would be a great honour to Alfie and his family. We thank everyone for their kind words and support.
I had the privilege to have Alf as one of my sons first coaches and he never put them aside if they weren't his best skaters, he treated all his team members the same on and off the ice. As far as I am concerned he was an icon to Brighton Minor Hockey and is deserving of this honor.
I first met Alfie on school trips with his grand daughter. He was all about kids being active. He gave my daughter several pairs of skates as she grew. I tried to pay for the skates but he would never take it. He just wanted to see kids on the ice.
My two younger kids loved going to watch their older brother play hockey just to see Alfie..it's not the same without him and I feel we should honor him with the place he called home and my oldest even said every rep home game he has he is playing in his honor
My skates will never be so sharp, you made sure with every sharpen there was love and dedication into them. I'll never forget its not the sharpen its the player .. but I always thought you put magic into my skates. May you rest in peace.
