Alfred (Alfie) Gregg was a pillar in our community. He spent decades of his life in service to families, children and youth in Brighton and those also visiting our hockey and skating centre. He was a coach, a mentor and a friend to many. His kindness and generosity made it possible for many families to afford the ability to enroll their children in hockey. He was someone you could always count on to be there. The guy who could get the perfect edge; always with a smile, a kind word and a twinkle in his eye. It is only fitting and right that our arena should be renamed the Alfred Gregg Memorial Arena in commemoration of his passion, dedication and service to our community.
Alf was a coach to my kids, and he helped us out with hockey equipment when we really needed it. He made long canteen hours go by with friendly conversation and he really loved his family. The Brighton arena really is his place and should be named in his honour.
