Lawrence Parks and Recreation has raised prices, and altered fee structures so that the standard rates equal or exceed those of most privately owned and all municipal or county courses in the area. Annual passes or discounted rates for volume have been offered but change frequently. This is especially challenging to retirees or those nearing retirement trying to budget their limited resources. The uncertainty in policies seem to stem from City officials requiring that Eagle Bend break even or generate a profit, a requisite of no other Park and Rec facility, nor of other municipal golf courses. Taxes of patrons of Eagle Bend who reside in Lawrence support Sports Pavilion Lawrence, aquatic facilities, playing fields, walking paths, and other recreation facilities, but not the facility they value most. We request stable fees and discounts, a yearly price for green fees, range and cart fees, backed by modest subsidies from Parks and Rec if necessary. We would like the discounts to pertain to Douglas County residents, and that those making policy of said course have Douglas County’s best interests in mind.

As a regular player at Eagle Bend for years I have been disappointed at the steady rise in rates over the years. Please give serious consideration to this petition.
If, after over 15 years, the cost of building Eagle Bend is finally paid, shouldn't the green fees go down? If making a profit is Parks and Recreation's goal, then that goal should be applied to every Parks and Recreation program or facility. Discrimination without justification is always bad policy.
Supported the course for almost a decade and had a membership the whole time. Now just to play on the weekend is about all i can afford.
Being that I live on a limited retirement income, I would definitely play more golf if the rate for Douglas County residents were discounted.
By maintaining high prices the money's that could be spent in the Douglas County and the city of Lawrence will once again be spent in Topeka and KCK area. wouldn't it be prudent to keep the coffers filled in the Douglas County/ Lawrence instead ? Why are area golfers once again being marginalized?
I play EB at least 4-5 times per week and hardly see a soul most days, even weekends. If the course were managed properly with fair, structured green fees, annual passes for golf/carts/range, discounts for Lawrence residents, seniors and veterans, and empty tee times filled with discount golf websites/apps such as GolfNow, the course could easily break even or make a tidy profit. Onesomes, twosomes and threesomes are allowed to tee off with empty slots rather than pairing people to maximize efficiency. As a retired military officer, I managed thousands of men and women and hundreds of millions of dollars of government resources over my career, observing government fraud, waste and abuse on numerous occassions throughout my career and after. EB's management is just another example of laissez faire, bureaucratic, government leadership or, in this case, lack thereof. It's a beautiful, well kept, and challenging course which should have tee times filled throughout the week and club tournaments scheduled during the course of the season to generate interest, esprit de corps among residents/members, and profits for the course and city. I attempted to play around 3:30pm one afternoon this season after a large tournament ended and the course was empty, but was turned away after driving ten miles. When I asked why I could not play 9 holes even though there wasn't a single person on the course and with 3-4 hours of daylight left, I was told "we always close the course after tournaments, that's the way it's always been done". If a military subordinate had ever told me "we do it that way because that's the way it has always been done", I would have blown a cork, counseling the individual and ensuring I never got that answer again. Course operating expenses are the same whether EB has 1% of tee times filled or 100% of tee times filled, so why are they not filling the numerous empty tee times each day with reduced green fees through GolfNow, coupons, promotions, and oth

Not sure where EB is headed with green fees, but it appears the senior rates with no price packages are non existent. I am finding other courses are offering better pricing and discounts. I hope the upward scale of fees is not due to the fact that EB is the only game in town now that it is the only public course here. I would like to see better pricing and discounts at EB comparable to surrounding areas.
