Above is the link to the Agenda for the June 15th Albany Common Council Meeting - please make comment supporting the resolution on the common council web site.

Urge the City of Albany Common Council and Mayor Kathy Sheehan to open Capital Hills Golf Course to golfers. On May 16, 2020 Governor Andrew Cuomo deemed golf an essential recreational activity. Capital Hills remains the only public golf course closed in the region. The Operational Budget for Capital Hills for 2020 has already been approved and is estimated to generate revenue of $1,049,300. Each day that Capital Hills remains closed to golfers valuable revenue, youth recreational opportunities and private sector jobs are lost. Capital Hills is home to two private sector small businesses that have operated in the City for decades - Martel's Restuarant and the Capital Hills Pro Shop. These small businesses employ City residents; collect sales and use taxes; and will not survive the closure. Additional hardship is felt by the Normanskill neighborhood of Albany through job losses, diminished property values and further loss of recreational space. In 2019 the Normanskill neighborhood lost the use of recreational space at the Department of Corrections site.

I spent the morning looking at the numbers for the golf course again and it is honestly baffling that we are still stuck in this holding pattern while the grass grows and the local businesses suffer. I am trying to get a straight answer from someone in the building about why the doors are locked but nobody seems to want to take responsibility for the decision.

We are getting so near that one thousand mark and honestly I keep refreshing the page like a maniac because this momentum is actually kind of wild. Please just send the link to a few folks you know or maybe post it on your feed because if we hit that milestone today it might actually force them to pay attention to these lost jobs and empty greens.

I checked the count again and we are getting so near that one hundred mark which is just wild to think about honestly. If we can just push over that edge right now it might finally get someone on the council to actually look at their inbox instead of ignoring us. Please just toss this link onto your feed one more time because I really think we can get there if we just keep the momentum going.

I don’t golf, and I utilize capital hills as a dog park daily, but I think the golf course should be open. There are other local dog parks in Albany I can utilize. There are not other golf courses in Albany for golfers. Good luck!

The easy access to the municipal golf course is one of the big reasons I choose to live in the city. Being able to get out and walk a quick nine at the municipal course is a key component that contributes to the quality of life for residents like me with a young family.

Support health and wellness... open the course! Stadium has a good model, take reservations online, hands free flagstick, no cart rentals until it's safe to do so, masks in common areas, social distance. Do it to it!

Mayor....this golf course has so much history....was put on the map during the "GREAT DEPRESSION" my father worked on building the course....so many young people were able to play the game on this course as the older generation....as a "ALBANY TAX PAYER" do us a favor play the course.

Not sure how you are losing money operating the golf course. Course like Eagle Crest, Orchard Creek and Stadium operate and the revenue supports the owners/operators. Otherwise they would be out of business. Golf is one of the safest recreation activities you can do, young or old!

I have worked the golf course for the last 3 years and I’m out of work because it’s not opened. It is so ridiculous to keep it open for dog walkers and walkers when there are perfectly good spots elsewhere. Open the golf Course so I can make money for college!

One of the top 5 course in the capital district. There is no reason the city shouldn’t be able to come up with a solution to open the course
