We are happy to hear that the Town of Fairfield Golf Commission has selected a new software vendor to manage the tee times at the town's public golf courses. However, we are concerned about timing. While the current tee time solution is not user-friendly, another common complaint is the 5 AM time required to log-in to the system to have a chance at getting a desired tee time reservation. Such an early wake up is an inconvenience for most people and especially frustrating when you are unable to get a reservation due to a technical glitch in the system, or get shut out because of high demand. We believe a municipal golf course should provide the best accessibility to the general public. The current tee time system and the 5 AM timing does not accomplish this goal.
We, the golfers at H. Smith Richardson, ask the Golf Commission to change this timing. We believe there are better alternatives to 5 AM, as other public courses have demonstrated. For example, making tee times available on-line at 10 PM or midnight, 7 days in advance, would be preferred by the majority of golfers who play at H. Smith Richardson. Log-in times could be staggered like they are today for residents and season pass holders. We ask that the Golf Commission work with Bob Bigonette and his staff to find a reasonable solution that works best for the majority.

I have spent the last few mornings talking with fellow golfers who are just as tired of the five o clock struggle as I am. We are currently working on a proposal for the commission that highlights how much more equitable a later booking time would be for everyone.

Seeing so many of you echo the same frustration about these 5 AM wake-up calls proves that this course belongs to all of us. I am genuinely overwhelmed by this surge of energy from our community. We are finally proving that the current system is broken but now we have the momentum to demand a better plan.

Great idea to improve a system that could use some changes. I would personally recommend a 10pm logon as most of us are home and still awake. Midnight is much too late for many folks and 5am is too early for most. Looking forward to seeing some improvements in this area.
Perhaps leagues could start a little later to allow non league players a chance to get some desired times.
We really need to rethink this system and whatever budget consideration is required to improve the opportunity for all of us to make use of the facility. Smith should set Fairfield apart from our neighboring towns much the same way as Long Shore does for Westport. Everyone who pays taxes and owns a home here should care about that.
A tee time process for golf should never feel like a chore! For the love of the game!
New tee time software is long overdue. I've been playing at Smith Richardson for 27 years. I pay $500 for a season pass which gives me the privilege to sign on at 5:00 am. Too many times to count where the present system blocks me from getting a early tee time on the weekends. If the present system continues I will no longer support Smith Richardson and will play elsewhere. Time for change.
Midnight seems better than 5AM.
