We, the undersigned students, parents and community of Burbank, CA, respectfully request that the current and whole framework of the JBHS dance program led by Emily Pierce continue to be offered at John Burroughs High School. This program and its teacher are a treasured part of the performing arts cornerstone at our school, that supports student's physical, social, emotional and cognitive development.

Dance saved me in High School! It is such an important option for the physical and mental health of students that are less inclined to do sports or PE. It is an art form that is an agent of self expression which is of such great importance to high school age kids.

Please save this wonderful performing arts program! It is so rare for high school dancers to be able to perform alongside live vocals and live instrumentals as they do at the winter show!

Dance serves an incredibly important outlet and community-building role for my son, who is part of Burroughs Dance Team and Dance Pro. And Ms. Pierce is the heart of dance. She is beloved by all, integral and indispensable. Ms. Pierce must remain at Burroughs and dance must continue.

Coach has always been a mom to me, I never wouldn’t thought I would meet such a positive role model that would push me with such kindness. She is a mom, a teacher, a coach, and a sister all wrapped up into one, it pains me to see her forcefully moved and I hope they leave her where she’s happiest.

Some kids aren’t sports kids, some kids don’t want to JUST do PE… dance is so special for so many. Offering art as well as physical activity. Please don’t take the only other offering for a PE credit away from our students. They deserve this little joy.

I’m not sure why BUSD continues to take arts away. It also shocks me when they show preference to one school over the other making children pick between friends, location and an elective they love… especially something like dance that is popular.

Being in dance at Burroughs was an incredible experience - I not had a means of self expression in a challenging time, but learned how to function on a team and leverage various abilities of my own and my peers. Dance is not like other sports - it is a physical means to create what is in your heart. It cannot be substituted. Please reconsider.
