Currently, children in the Greenview School District are being picked up and dropped off on the edge of a busy main road that provides no barrier to protect them from traffic driving 40 miles an hour, or more. There are construction vehicles and Semi trucks that use it as a main route to get to nearby road construction and the Highway. The risks to the safety of the children are significant. They are at risk for being hit by a vehicle due to the vehicle losing control, especially in Ohio's icy winters. There is further risk with children running into the roadway and getting hit by a vehicle. All of these risks pose significant safety hazards for the children.

The transportation supervisor has denied a stop located closer to the location of 33 North limestone due to her own discretion. There is no written policy preventing it. I also have talked with the police of Chief and he said he has No problem a stop being added at the corner of adams and 72 / North Limestone , or even in front of our house on 72 or the post office . We live on the main road that most of the buses to the elementary drive by us as I have to walk 7 little children from the ages of 2-9 along the busy road 1/4 mile down to almost the school itself. I cant imagine doing this when its snowing and freezing out and the window for pick up is 15 minutes( on either side of 7:45 ) that we could be waiting for the bus on the busy road . The option available is to ask the superintendent and board of directors to intervene and require the bus stop be moved closer where it is much safer despite some of the arguments the transportation superviser has made.

It is the district transportation manager who has the right to make the decision of where the bus stops are. Although She is required to find a safe area, the policies don't specifically state what a safe area is, leaving "safe" as a matter of interpretation. Please take a stand and sign the petition today. Let the district know that safety cannot be compromised. Please sign I need your support when I go the school board meeting September 17th 2015 to fight this even more then I have the last couple months trying to have this stop moved closer . Thank you in advance Sherrie Brown

Updates

September 8, 2015

I spent the morning pacing around the house thinking about those massive trucks barreling down the road and realized I just need to get in front of the school board members directly. It is exhausting trying to explain to the supervisor why walking seven kids through the freezing slush is a nightmare but I am not giving up until someone finally listens to common sense.

September 8, 2015

I feel like I am pacing around my kitchen just thinking about how many people actually care about these kids and their safety on that awful road. It is honestly overwhelming to look at the notifications and realize so many of you see exactly why this change needs to happen right now. I have been drafting an email to the board because this momentum is impossible to ignore anymore and I hope they realize that too.

I lived on the corner of limestone and 72 a couple years back and had the same issue and it was never resolved. Same two options was provided to me that was given to the petitioner. This SAME problem on this SAME corner was brought to their attention 7 years ago.

I live on the same street, however it is considered HIGHWAY 72. The spied limit in front of my house is 55 mph. Within 6 houses in a row three of those houses the bus picks up children to greeneview schools ( mine being one of them) , one of the houses it stops for doesn't even ride the bus, he gets driven by a family member, but the bus stops every day anyway. This is crazy! Take that one stop the bus makes for one child that doesn't ride it and use it for Sherrie and all of the children that need it!

There are 9 children who must walk a long way to a bus stop on a main road. This needs to rectified for the safety and welfare of these children. This is far too many children to be standing at this dangerous location waiting for the school bus. Thank you.

My kids are part of the group Sherrie is walking to the stop. I walked this route today and was almost blown over by the force of the wind off the vehicles. Not only does my 5 year old son have to make the trip, but my 2 year old daughter has to walk this trip out and back 2 times a day due to the distance from the house. I am extremely concerned for the safety of my children and the fact that the transportation department doesn't see this as a problem.

Please find a closer location for the bus to pick up children. The current location is unacceptable. My children go to the babysitters here and are both under the age of 2. Please consider what you asking of Sherrie. If one of my children were to get hit by a car because they had to walk down to a bus stop I would be furious.

I also live on 72 but the opposite side and while the kids get on the bus at my home it still makes me extremely nervous because cars AND semis come flying down that rode and we are directly after a curve in the road so they cant even see that traffic is stopped until they are at the back of the bus. the location she is speaking of is also VERY unsafe especially during morning hours when everyone is rushing to school and work etc. Please switch this for the safety of those children

This is really a sad situation for little children! I hope that you will think of the safety for them!
