Last year Hyndburn Borough Council turned down a proposed public park/garden in favour of a Super Mosque during its renovation of Steiner Street. We the signatories on this petition ask the council to reverse the decision based on the following reasons

 1. A mosque benefits a small percentage of the residents of Accrington were as a public area benefits not only the residents of the town but also visitors to the town. 2 Due to the location of the planned mosque, between

2 of the busiest roads leading into the town centre, many business in the area will suffer a detrimental loss of trade as on days and times of worship many people will avoid the town centre as the traffic will be gridlocked with several hundred extra cars using junctions that are already suffering from traffic congestion

3 A new 3 storey mosque has already been given planning permission within a 2 mile radius of the proposed site

4 A public garden within walking distance of the town centre would not only benefit Local businesses but would encourage families to walk from the park to the town centre giving a much needed boom to the economy of the town.

5 Blackburn has a super mosque less than 10 miles from the proposed site.

I just looked at the screen and saw 500 signatures which honestly feels surreal because I was honestly worried nobody else noticed the traffic issues on Steiner Street or cared about the garden. My coffee is cold now because I have been staring at the notification list for twenty minutes and thinking about how much we really need that green space for our town families.

I honestly did not think we would hit one hundred signatures this fast because it feels like just yesterday I was typing this up in a total panic about the traffic on Steiner Street. It is honestly so wild looking at these names and realizing how many of you actually see the disaster this park decision is turning into for our local shops.

The emails I get from the council are just these robotic placeholders that imply they have heard me but clearly they are not listening at all. I spent all morning pacing around the kitchen thinking about those traffic junctions specifically because nobody seems to care about how the gridlock will actually cripple every single shop on that street.

TOTAL WASTE OF SPACE. SHOULD BE A PUBLIC PARK LIKE WE WANTED

We need more green spaces for our families not more concrete buildings that only serve a few people. Listen to the public for once.

So disappointed. A park would actually bring people into the town centre to shop. This just makes things harder for everyone driving through.

The council have lost the plot. Gridlock every friday is all we have to look forward to now. Terrible idea.

Ridiculous decision. The traffic near Steiner st is bad enough as it is without adding more chaos. Keep the gardens!

Accrington doesnt need another one of these when we could have a nice park for the kids. parking is already a nightmare anyway.
