Triathlon are charging us an 'admin' fee of £100+VAT just to agree to us remortgaging with another lender. We have no choice other than to pay this which is tantamount to extortion. From correspondence I have had it is basically for comparing our old mortgage offer and the new one to ensure we're not 'profiteering'. Other HA's charge little or nothing for this, but Triathlon deem £100+VAT to be acceptable for the little work that is involved in this and it is clearly another spurious charge to boost their coffers. I would like this charge removed or drastically lowered for remortgages that don't involve further increased borrowing. We are trying to get a better deal for ourselves at the end of the day by remortgaging, and Triathlon are blatantly taking advantage of it by finding any excuse to squeeze more money out of us. They seem to forget they are an affordable housing scheme!
I'd like to offer my support to this petition, given that most shared owners generally have a 2 year fixed mortgage and we are young and first time buyers (25 year tenure) this would cost us over £1200+ over the lifetime of the mortgage, on top of other legal fees, service charges, ground rent, normal rent, and mortgage payments - this is an unnecessary expense and goes against the principle of making these homes affordable.
