We are calling on the government to force all banks to have fair charges. Banks currently charge their customers for a un-arranged overdraft, usually at around £30.00, some banks even charge this much for transactions as little as (minus)-50p, what's more this is usually a rolling charge whereby the bank will add a daily charge for being overdrawn, some banks have been known to charge £30.00 a day! This is not fair on anyone but people on a low income find it extremely difficult to pay back or are left with no pay at the end of the month due to a spiralling effect that the bank puts in place. The proposition put to the banks would be, if a customer goes overdrawn, the bank would be within right to charge the customer. However the charge must be justified, for example if a customer has gone over overdrawn by anything less then £10.00, 100% of the amount overdrawn can be claimed for in charges. If the amount the customer has gone overdrawn exceeds the amount £10.01 the bank could choose what they charge (suggested £30.00). Banks would also be required to allow the customer reasonable time to repay charges without occurring further charges, for example if a customer has occurred a charge and they will not have funds to repay the charge before a new charge occurs, the bank will have to reverse the latest charge. if however the bank allows the customer time to pay the charge and the customer fails to make the agreed repayment, the bank is within their right not to refund either charge.

Ridiculous to charge someone thirty quid for being a couple quid overdrawn. My nephew got hit with these fees and it ruined his whole month. Banks are just greedy.
