Gordano School finally backed down and confirmed the A-Level dance course will run for the full two years as intended. They realized they could not justify gutting our arts programs based on biased priorities. We won today but keep your eyes open to ensure they actually follow through.

Final supporters
At Gordano School they are threatening to run the A-Level dance course for one year instead of two, due to the limited number of students and a change in staffing. Although this will be the highest number they have had in a while and the new teacher is capable of teaching the A-Level course. They are also blaming it on cuts, but are happy to keep other subjects which are seen as 'better'.

Gordano School leadership is still trying to justify gutting our dance program while they prioritize their chosen subjects over our education. We are hovering right below one hundred signatures and we need to push past this mark to prove they cannot just ignore us.

It's such a shame and disappointing that Dance A Level can now not be offered at this late stage and after having letters confirming you could study the course.
Just because dance is seen as a soft subject by universities, Gordano should not base their decision on this as not everyone wants to follow this route and for some students dance may be vital for their future career which the school are limiting. Dance has developed many skills I'll use in later life and this shouldn't be stopped for others.
I want to study a level dance and so will have to leave the school if i cant do it which i really dont want to do
Arts bashing again very sad this will affect my daughter who is due to start this course in sept and my daughter in year 8 who was looking forward to doing this after her GCSEs
I'm not even doing a-level and even I understand the importance to keep a subject such as dance. If you are getting rid of subjects, why get rid of the unique ones when you're keeping academic ones that are not much different from eachother. I thought the school strived for variety?

The Arts ARE important. We are in danger of losing so much. I have a BSc in Chemistry and taught A Level for eleven years. I also have Music Diplomas and have taught singing for nearly twenty years. I have used all my skills and knowledge to inform my teaching. Young people need the creativity of the Arts - not just a succession of academic subjects and facts. One feeds the other.
