The board officially announced the hiring of our new superintendent today. Seeing the process through to this result feels like a weight off my shoulders for all our students. We successfully pushed for the national search our district deserved.

*UPDATE*

During the first week of 2017, the School Board will be reviewing the Superintendent applications they received and deciding whom to interview. Stay tuned for possible news on finalists soon!

*UPDATE*

At their August 24th meeting, the School Board unanimously voted to conduct a national search for our next Superintendent. Please feel free to continue to add to this petition to show both appreciation for their decision and support for their upcoming efforts to make this the best possible process for our community.

BACKGROUND

As you may be aware, CUSD has been without a permanent Superintendent for most of the past year. Our prior search firm, therefore, is obligated to provide another national search free of charge. Whether this firm is used or not, the School Board would be following standard good practice to use that process to vet all qualified candidates, whether internal or external. This way, the person who is selected has the full confidence of the parent and school community. Please join us in signing this petition to urge the Board to immediately begin a national search so we can find the best possible Superintendent for our children.

PETITION

On behalf of our school community, we petition the School Board to follow standard procedure by promptly conducting a national search to find the most suitable internal or external candidate for Superintendent of the Carmel Unified School District.

Seeing this kind of momentum confirms that I am not the only one who cares deeply about the future of our local schools. This energy proves that our community is ready to play an active role in choosing the right leader for our children.

We’re role modeling for our own children and all the students of our school district, Carmel Unified, one of the finest districts in the state. As engaged parents, we actively support our CUSD Board and administration in developing and executing the model processes, in particular this executive search.

CUSD must use an open, full process - and should learn from their implementation of the last search in order to do better this time. Thank you.

Obviously we need an amazing person to lead our wonderful school district. The last two were nowhere near the quality we should be looking for.

Having seen my own organization struggle through leadership vacuums in one of the top two slots for most of the last 4 years, I can attest to the importance of getting quality, permanent leaders on board. I commend the sentiments expressed in this petition.

I highly recommend conducting an open, professional search for a qualified candidate for the role of CUSD Superintendant. We support this effort and gladly assist in any way that ensures child-centric education and community-focused leadership.

I'm signing as a show of support for our Board. I believe we parents are ready and willing to help them through the effort of a standard search. With whatever time and input would be of assistance, we will support their strong advocacy for our children.

On behalf of my family, and all of the families of the Carmel Unified School District, I urge the school board, to do what is best, for the students, the families, and the district, and begin a national search, as soon as possible.
