The county board finally confirmed the official renaming of the airport to honor Jim and Marvene Tatum. I am exhausted by the long back and forth but grateful we reached this point together. Keep an eye on the signage updates to ensure they actually follow through with the change.

We hit one hundred signatures today. It has been a long road to get even this far but I keep showing up because the Tatums deserve this recognition. We are just getting started.

Jim taught me to fly and was a mentor throughout my early career. I am now a captain at southwest airlines. It would have never been possible with jim and marvene. God speed and blue skies.

Jim taught me to fly while getting my private license and I'm now flying in the Air Force. Jim and Marvene invested their lives into that airport. It absolutely deserves to be renamed in honor of them.

Jim Tatum was my instructor over 40 years ago and a person I have admired and greatly respected ever since. Naming the airport after Mr. & Mrs. Tatum is a wonderful tribute that will endure!

I always looked forward to see Jim and others sitting on the front porch chatting when I came out to fly. Really a friendly and special group of folks at AJR. Would be wonderful to remember Jim and Marvene. by renaming the airport for them

Tatum was the Best CFI, Always special times at the Airport. One Rainy day in 1979 I Cold Called Habersham Avation to inquire about flying lessons. Jim Answered the phone with that Gravely Voice, “ Habersham Aviation” and made me feel as if had known him for years. The Airport was a Single Runway with 1 hanger and a 12’ single wide mobile home FBO, my 1st lesson was in the rain and with a cost of $5 per hour, 2.50 for the plane and 2.50 for the CFI/ Jim. I completed my Private Pilot’s License in 1981. I always gave Jim credit for giving me my pilot and selling skills that have served me well for 40 years. Please Honor Jim and Marlene 40 years of community service by naming the Airport after them both. Thanks, Tom
