To Spokane County School Superintendents, School Board Members, Dr. Bob Lutz and the Spokane Regional Health District Board:

We, the undersigned, believe that education is essential for the growth, health, and advancement of the youth of Spokane. With only a virtual option provided, too many parents are being faced with an impossible situation, choose between either educating their children or continuing to work to provide for their families. Regardless of socio or economic positions, every parent deserves educational options for their children, both online AND in person. It is the responsibility of our educational and civic leaders to provide creative options for how every student in Spokane can have access to quality, effective, engaging education.

We are inviting teachers, educators, parents, and any other community members that care about the children of our city to join us in advocating for a safe in-person option in our Spokane County school districts this fall. By signing below, you are showing your support for parents to be given a choice, to have educational options that consider the mental, emotional and physical well being of our children through an in-person option in addition to virtual in-home learning.

We are at less than 1.0 transmission rate in Spokane, less than 3% covid hospitalizations, and less than 60% total hospital beds occupied. These are exciting results that support the case to reopen schools. Our children are suffering academically, mentally and emotionally. Please allow them to go back to school.

Our community needs our kids back in school. It is what’s best for kids well being. If the Seahawks can play, Walmart is open and Marijuana shops are full...I’m pretty sure my kids can go back to school.

It is crucial to make the necessary adjustments to get Spokane's children back to school. Or they'll become part of families that can no longer get to work and make a living.

Our children need schools to be open for in person learning, and given the opportunity to get a well rounded education that doesn’t involve a kindergartener staring at the computer for 8 hours a day

Mental health is JUST as important as physical health. The long term negative mental and societal impacts of "real time virtual learning" far outweigh the risk of being exposed to COVID. Kids who are economically disadvantaged, minorities, or have a learning disability are NOT receiving equitable access to education.

I have 2 daughters, 7th grade and 5th grade, they both desperately want to go back to school. They want to feel normal again. They don't want to be punished for a virus they haven't had. Please give us the option to go back, we aren't scared.
