Community Petition: Objection to the Proposed Development at 32 Burma Road, Tocumwal

To: Berrigan Shire Council

From: Concerned Residents of Tocumwal

We, the undersigned, respectfully submit this petition to formally object to the 324 movable homes proposed development at 32 Burma Road, Tocumwal. (North of Golf Course)

As residents and community members, we strongly believe that this development is inappropriate for the location and does not align with the character, infrastructure, or planning principles of Tocumwal. Our concerns include, but are not limited to:

  • Incompatibility with Local Character: The proposed development does not reflect the low-density, rural-residential character of Tocumwal and sets a precedent for future overdevelopment that threatens the unique charm of our town.
  • Increased Traffic and Safety Risks: Additional traffic on Burma Road, a narrow and predominantly rural street, poses safety risks to residents, pedestrians, and local wildlife.
  • Environmental Impact: Potential damage to surrounding natural environments, including native vegetation and habitats, has not been adequately assessed or mitigated.
  • Strain on Local Infrastructure: Existing services such as water, sewage, and roads are not equipped to support high-density or inappropriate developments of this nature.
  • Lack of Community Consultation: Many residents feel that adequate consultation has not been conducted to understand and incorporate community views.

We urge the Berrigan Shire Council to:

  • Reject the current proposal for the development at 32 Burma Road, Tocumwal.
  • Ensure any future developments in the area align with the existing character and planning strategies of the Tocumwal community.
  • Facilitate transparent community engagement before considering any major land use or zoning changes.

Lived in Tocumwal all my life, family has been here for four generations, I notice more and more every year how the town is slowly losing the charm and character that make it Tocumwal this development will only further that.

Too close to our historic WW2 Aerodrome, there will be many noise complaints from the residents of this development threatening the aerial activities we enjoy at the Aerodrome. We need the Aerodrome open for the RFD SERVICE PLANES

They can't even get a ambulance station in town or a doctor to go to the hospital, let alone that there is no internet during peak times due to the amount of people in town, how in gods name is this going to work without getting these things fixed FIRST

The town dose not have enough infrastructure for something like this. The storm water backs up in this area after a heavy rain and adding more pressure on the storm water system could cause constant flooding to homes in this area.

There is no guarantee that such a large complex will be completed in a reasonable time, that such a large number of people of a certain age group will be attracted to Tocumwal at the house prices suggested, and the development will become a “white elephant”. Such a large older aged group will put a strain on health facilities and services, especially My Aged Care.

Our water pressure only 100 metres from there is the worst of any house, flat, caravan or motel I’ve ever been in or visited and now they want 324 plus people or more driving in and out at peak times in to Hutsons Road

Have they lost their mind. They are just turning a blind eye as they know all the problems this will cause. It’s all about the money for them!!
