Currently, three courts are designated for open play, while two are reserved for challenge play. While the challenge courts serve more advanced players, this system often leaves many community members waiting extended periods for their turn. On busy days, it’s common to see more than 25 players waiting to rotate onto just three courts.
As these courts are a municipal service meant for all residents, we respectfully request that the City consider making all five courts open play on weekends, when demand is highest — or ideally, extending open play to all courts at all times. This small change would help ensure fair access for players of all levels and foster an even greater sense of community engagement and inclusion.

There are always going to different levels of play in a public court. On the 3 open courts, there are beginners and experienced players alike. It works. We play with each other. To worry about the frustration of very advanced partners having to play with the inexperienced is elitist. If you want to play with 4 experienced players you can put your paddles together and wait like everyone else. It's done everywhere. The only issue that should matter is wait time.. I can't understand why anyone would think it's fair for some folks to wait 30 minutes between games while a the best 4 players play continously. It just not fair in a municipal funded court.
Leave our courts alone, and get a life! If you hate it that much, then go find courts that work for you! Challenge courts are what makes Hagan Park fun and exciting.

4 on 4 off on all courts with the current 4 slot racks on 1,2,3 provides everyone the ability to play with their level without preferencing winner status or skill level. No one is forced to play outside their desired skill level on the first 3 courts.
Don't try to fix what's not broken! Hagan Park system is great, it worked very well since it opened back up. Just because the queens from Ptown and NYC etc are back and instead of challenging good players on the pickleball courts, they are trying to challenge them with a lame petition that will only benefit them the 4 months they are in town.
I think that the advanced players are able to paddle up together with their 4 paddles. No one is forced to play with anyone w the racking system that we have.

I respectfully disagree with this petition. Challenge courts help players grow, improve their skills, and enjoy more competitive play. They also allow everyone the opportunity to participate — no one is excluded, and players can always move up by earning their spot on the court. This system has proven to work very well in many other communities. It creates a fun, motivating environment and encourages players of all levels to challenge themselves, learn, and get better. Instead of removing challenge courts, we should continue supporting a system that promotes fairness, improvement, and a positive pickleball experience for everyone.
