We, the undersigned, support the proposal to have Hingham High School provide a second GPA on student's transcripts, using the commonly accepted 4.0 weighting scale as described here. This second GPA should be provided on any student's transcript that would benefit from it (where the commonly accepted 4.0 GPA is higher.)
We also request that Hingham High School communicate to all colleges and universities that the Hingham High School GPA system is not the typical 4.0 system and that they make that clear on both the school report and transcript.
In addition, at the end of the school year, Hingham High School should provide both GPA's to all rising Seniors to ensure that all students are aware of their GPA using each of the weighting systems.
Unfortunately this comes too late as both of our children have graduated from HHS in the past two years. For them to have been rejected from some of their target schools and to have lost out on additional merit aid is unconscionable. The policy needs to be changed for all future students so that they are on par with their peers at other schools.
