This is most likely the best and last opportunity to request as many people as possible who may have an interest in Calvin Coolidge SHS’s modernization which would ensure that it stays open to serve it’s community beyond its 77th Anniversary. Coolidge opened its doors in 1940. We need everyone’s help to get as many signatures onto this petition with hope that it’s effective in stimulating enough Council member votes for getting Coolidge’s modernization funds included in the next DC City Council Budget. If the Coolidge modernization dollars are not included in the next Council approved budget, WE TRULY BELIEVE COOLIDGE WILL CLOSE!! This assumption/calculation is based on where we stand from a planning perspective currently in terms of the Community Working Group (CWG) selected by DCPS as an advisory group for Coolidge’s modernization planning and the fact that the current enrollment sits at 384 (Total Student Body) which has decreased dramatically every year.

We’ve provided helpful and simple instruction below to guide you through the petition signature process.

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many of you have stepped up to support our school. We are getting so near to 500 signatures and your commitment is the only reason this is even still a topic of conversation. Please keep showing people why this building matters because this momentum belongs entirely to you.

I honestly never imagined we would see 100 people come together for this school so quickly. This response is entirely due to your dedication and it shows how much this community cares about the future of Coolidge. Thank you for proving me wrong to doubt that we could get this far.

I am honestly overwhelmed by the number of people who have signed already. If we can reach one hundred signatures together today, it will show the council that this school truly belongs to the community.

The Council kept pushing back the time line for Coolidge modernization in NW, Wilson, Roosevelt, and Cardozo SHS. WARD 4 has more of its share of Charter Schools which significantly lowered Coolidge enrollment. Please keep your promise to modernize Coolidge.

I am an alumni member. I graduated in 1990. It would be a tragedy for the community and the alumni to let this building go. DC has entirely too many condos as it is. I also taught at Coolidge in the 1995- 1996 school year with Sylvan Learning Systems

The Assembly of Petworth , a community empowerment organization that resided in Ward ,and our many partners in the health and academic fields strongly support the modernization project for Coolidge Senior High School...Please move forward with the Coolidge 's modernization project.

I am a 1975 graduate of Calvin Coolidge High School and a co-founder of the Calvin Coolidge Alumni Association. It is imperative that the high is fully modernized and remains open to continue to meet the educational needs of youth and serve the families in the Ward 4 community.

This is my school. I was Class of '99! My father went to this school. We have to keep some legacy within the community for the next greneration. Keep Coolidge open. Closing is easy. Hiring the right staff and restructuring is what is needed.

Students of Georgia ave's large community need access to schools in walking distance. It cuts back on the added stress of the the rigorous coursework they take on to succeed. What if you shared some of the funding from schools who've already undergone renovations?
