AISD School Health Advisory Committee and Trustees,

As an Austin ISD parent, I am asking that you please support the development of healthy students and families by supporting comprehensive sexuality education for all grade levels in AISD.

If our district is truly committed to “reinventing the urban education experience” and making sure “all students will graduate college-, career-, and life-ready”, then the district should invest in quality sexuality education that encourages and supports conversations between parents and their children.

Parents and schools need to work together give students the tools they need to stay safe and healthy. I teach my child our family’s values, and I rely on AISD to help me teach them the facts. I want my child to learn the medically accurate names of their body parts, healthy communication and relationship skills, and about abstinence and contraceptive methods in school at the developmentally appropriate time.

Students who learn age-appropriate information about effective communication, safe relationships, appropriate boundaries, and growth and development beginning in elementary school have a foundation that helps them make informed lifelong decisions about their bodies and relationships. AISD curriculum should include age-appropriate, medically accurate, sexuality education programs at all levels.

By providing fact-based, age-appropriate information on a range of topics pertaining to sexual health and relationships at every grade level, we uphold AISD’s values of the whole child, every child; supporting physical, social, and emotional health, and safety; and ensuring equity, diversity, and inclusion for all AISD students.

Sincerely,

So tired of the outdated curriculum. Things change. We need to keep up with the times so our kids dont end up in bad situations.

Kids are already finding all this stuff online anyway. Better they hear the real facts from a teacher than some garbage on the internet.

It is 2017. Why is this still a debate. Give the kids the info they need to be safe.

Yes! Thank you for pushing this. My daughter had questions and I didnt even know where to start. Schools need to help us out here.
