30mph speed limit outside Sunrise Nursery
Following a serious accident outside Sunrise Nursery in August 2020 along with many near misses prior to this, we would ask that all parties (district, council etc) meet and work together urgently to make our children's journey to a nursery a safe one.
We ask that the speed limit should be reduced to 30mph from the east of Kingston Bagpuize on the A415 to stretch out past the Kingston Bagpuize business park and past the crossroads at Digging Lane. This better reflects the changes in usage of the surrounding area, increased size and volume of traffic and the size of the business park and nursery.
We also ask that the group review other ways they could improve the road safety in the area, for example:
- Speed limiting devices/road hardware should be used e.g. village gates or chicanes to slow traffic
- A speed camera installed
- Written commitment from OCC on monthly hedge/splay control & reduction down this road

I was at the scene for the nursery when it accident happened. It’s a dangerous turn and junction so hopefully the speed reductions will reduce the likelihood of a serious accident again.
This is such a bad round to try and get out onto when leaving nursery. Especially when I have both my children in the car. Something really needs to be done about it and this is the the way forward.
My mother’s car was hit from behind by a speeding van as she stopped while someone was trying to turn into this entrance...... completely writing off her car if she had children in the rear seats this would be a completely different story.
Having used to work in the nursery a few years ago. It always scared me driving along this road and coming out of the nursery with my children in the car because of how fast the cars would go.
There are two driveways leading directly onto the road as well as the business park and new housing estate. Also on the opposite side to the nursery is the village cricket/football club grounds where children of all ages play only a short distance from the road. Lorries fly by at a frightening speed and it is a peril trying to pull onto and off of this road!
It is appalling how so many drivers in this area, particularly of HGVs, grab lorries, concrete wagons and other commercial and private COMPLETELY ignore the speed limit. And with no enforcement action ever taken this will continue to get worse. How come there is a regular speed trap van in Stanton Harcourt but never one in Kingston Bagpuize.
It is disgraceful how fast drivers travel on this section of road - especially those leaving the Hind's Head roundabout heading towards Marcham. Few observe the speed limit and most are travelling at least 50mph by the time they get to the Sunrise Nursery entrance. Those coming from Marcham are already doing this speed.

This is a complete no-brainer to extend the 30mph limit from the edge of the village to the nursery. You wouldn't have a 50mph limit outside of a school, so why not follow the same approach with even younger children? Furthermore, the junction has poor visibility, so all the more reason to apply common sense and lower the speed limit.
