We need your help to save the iconic Moreton Bay Figs at the Sunnybank Hospital. The situation is: There are development plans for a driveway to be placed at the McCullough Street side of Sunnybank Hospital. It means the removal of 100+ year old, Moreton Bay Fig trees. These trees are a natural icon to Sunnybank and provide aesthetic pleasure & shade for people in the vicinity. These trees provide natural habitats for wildlife and help solve the climate change crisis by exchanging carbon emmissions. Brisbane suburbs need existing natural resources for biodiversity. Please help the Government and Business organisations realise that cultural heritage and external economic values of our State's urban trees as they will help ensure a sustainable future for generations to come. The proposed driveway access point could be repositioned to facilitate a wellness area amongst the trees. This will offer patients a less-sterile environment to heal in and allow community members aesthetic pleasure.

The emails I send to the planning committee keep coming back with vague responses that offer no real comfort. It is exhausting to keep fighting for these trees when the developers act like they are nothing more than obstacles in a blueprint. I am holding on because the shade these giants provide is worth more than any driveway they want to pour.

Reaching this point has been an exhausting uphill climb but seeing the momentum grow confirms that these trees mean as much to you as they do to me. I am tired of the constant pressure from developers yet your support keeps me focused on the fight to save these old survivors.

Those trees have been there forever. My grandmother remembers them from when she was a kid. You cant just cut down history for a driveway.

The shade is amazing in summer. Just move the entrance slightly it makes way more sense to keep the trees for the patients anyway.
