My name is Doha Medani, and I am a 2018 graduate of NC State University. I graduated with honors and worked in the NC State Admissions Office for three of my four years on campus.
I was recently shocked to see an Instagram post from the campus group "TPUSA at NC State." The post, and the comments beneath it, contained hateful remarks about both Islam and Catholicism.
Free speech is a cornerstone of our democracy, and I support it. But this post leads me to ask: is discrimination, xenophobia, and racism what NC State's student organizations now promote?
I urge NC State's faculty, staff, Student Government, and administration to take a closer look at all student clubs and organizations and to hold them to a higher standard of critical thinking. People attend college to explore new ideas and to meet others whose worldviews are similar to or different from their own. That exchange is how learning happens, and it cannot happen in an environment where groups target others for their faith.
As an alumna, I believe TPUSA at NC State should be reviewed and, if warranted, suspended for its actions.
I urge NC State's administration, faculty, Student Government, and staff to review TPUSA at NC State's conduct and messaging. If the evidence supports it, this organization should be suspended. At minimum, the university must send a clear message: student organizations that promote hatred do not represent NC State's values, and they will face consequences.
As alumni, we make donations, encourage others to attend the University and look back at our rigorous educational experience with pride. To put it plainly, groups like TPUSA at NC State make the University look bad. I cannot in good faith continue to support a University that allows harmful, short-sighted and down-right abhorrent behavior.

Because I go to NC state and the comments said make me as a person of color insanely uncomfortable on my own campus.
As an alumna from NCSU I am appalled that action to permanently stop and deter this behaviour has not already taken place. Hate speech is not intellectually rigorous debate. The fact that this organization felt comfortable publishing it online is proof enough that these hateful students are comfortable bringing this into their classes and onto campus life. I will not donate. Recommend programs. Or participate in alumni events until this organization has been removed from campus
Freedom of religion is protected by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and NC state should not allow campus groups to spread anti constitutional ideas like this group does.
As a Christian, I find this kind of hateful speech from a so-called Christian organization appalling. It has no place at NC State.
The simplify hateful and xenophobic comments made by TPUSA NC State , create an unwelcoming environment for myself and many other my Muslim friends. This club claims to be exercising there freedom of speech while clearly showing this disdain for Muslims exercising there freedom of religion which is hypocritical and hateful.
Cus y'all stupid asl
As an NCSU alumni, it was disgusting to see some of the dangerous ideology being publicly shared that may harm thousands of students physically, mentally and emotionally.

They were just being blatantly racist and calling it “politics” and “hot takes” and that is not what North Carolina State University stands for. Shut it down.
