Description This petition is in response to the discrimination that occurred at the Cal Poly Crop Science unit Racist symbols and words were found displayed at the Crops Science House, a university-owned house where agriculture students are given subsidized lodging in exchange for work on the school’s farms. There was a party at the crop science house and at the entrance there was a sign that read, "NIGGERS, FAGS, & HIPPIES ARE NOT ALLOWED!" In addition, a noose and a confederate flag where hanging from the front railing. A table in the front of the house was also painted with the confederate flag. The only action thus far by administrators has been to discuss the issue with the alleged students and issue statements condemning their actions. As of now, there will be no charges pressed because it was declared as an act of free speech. Petition We, the undersigned, are appalled by the lack of action that came from the Cal Poly campus administrators in response to these discriminatory acts. We are asking our administrators to take a stand against discrimination and promote change on this campus by acknowledging what we feel is a direct threat to our well-being.
