Decision Makers: New Haven Unified School District Board of Education

We are calling for Dr. Jot Preet S. Sahi to be removed from the school renaming committee due to his role in initiating and escalating the incident that took place at the Community Forum on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. His continued actions only added to the tension and escalated the situation further.  Videos of the incident are now circulating online, and the community deserves answers and accountability.

Those serving on committees that represent our community should be held to a higher standard of conduct and be able to handle disagreements with respect and professionalism. The lack of an apology or accountability for his actions is especially disappointing.

Most importantly, our children deserve better. Children had to be removed from the situation because of how things escalated. No child should have to witness this kind of conflict at a community event that should be focused on our schools and their future.

As someone serving on this committee, he should be held accountable for his conduct, and action needs to be taken. We are asking the school board to take this seriously, address what happened, and remove him from the committee. Our community and our children deserve better.

I strongly urge Dr. Jot Preet be removal from the committee due to conduct that nearly escalated into a physical altercation in front of children, elders, and professionals. His lack of self-control, professionalism, and respect raises serious concerns about his ability to serve responsibly and avoid further incidents. Our community deserves better. Our children deserve better! His lack of accountability for his conduct in not apologizing shows that he believes in what he did was acceptable.

The Dr. behavior was unacceptable in every way! My young children were present at the moment and I had to give an unnecessary explanation to them as to why grown adults don’t know how to behave!

Committee members are expected to exercise sound judgment, communicate respectfully, resolve disagreements constructively and protect the committee’s ability to function effectively. His actions contributed to making a situation hostile and disruptive. There were students present and his actions intensified failure to demonstrate sound judgment. This created an impact to other community members like myself making us feel reluctant to participate. I am signing this petition to remove him!

My children were at the public forum and were traumatized by the outburst initiated by Jot Preet Sahi

Dr. Sahi applied for the appointment to the renaming committee and agreed to the terms of engagement. His behavior on October 27, 2026 was aggressive, disrespectful and inappropriate. Other members of the community attempted to deescalate and Dr. Sahi continued to incite the matter. There is no place for special interests and bullying tactics.

If you can not hold yourself to act professionally in public you should not be allowed to be on a committee
