We are asking for a real reduction in the volume of fireworks so people and animals in our area can live with less harm and fear. The explosive noise from fireworks does not just make a loud night louder. It shakes homes, startles wildlife, and leaves many people and animals distressed long after the show is over.
For some of us, this is deeply personal. I have personally lost an animal due directly to the volume of the explosive fireworks in my area, and that loss should not be dismissed as the cost of celebration. Loud fireworks can send animals into panic, cause them to flee, and disrupt the peace of entire neighborhoods. They also affect children, older people, and anyone who needs a calmer environment to feel safe and rested.
We are not asking to end celebration. We are asking for a more responsible approach that reduces the volume of fireworks and limits the harm they cause. Safer, quieter alternatives should be used whenever possible, and noisy displays should be restricted so they do not overwhelm our communities.
We urge decision-makers and event organizers to take this seriously and make lower-noise fireworks the norm. Our community deserves celebrations that do not come at the expense of animal welfare, public calm, and the simple right to peace at home.
I have no desire to ban fireworks! However, the concussive noise levels from the latest fireworks cause too much upset for animals and I feel these really loud 'bombs' should be curtailed. They're now similar to military type explosives. Enjoy the fireworks by all means, but I feel a visual display without colossal bangs, gives just as much pleasure to most.
