We, the citizens of Modesto and Stanislaus County, feel that the time has come to completely ban the use of fireworks in our great city and county, both legal and illegal. We do not feel safe anymore due to the year round use of fireworks. People who do this have a total disregard for others. Dogs and other pets are being lost when they bolt in fear. Some are never found. People are losing sleep. Veterans with PTSD are suffering. People are living in fear of an illegal firework hitting their home and starting a fire, which has happened in the past. There are too many people in our city and county who are inconsiderate, risking the safety and well being of the rest of us. We want this to stop as we cannot rely on our law enforcement agencies to be there when we call due to staffing shortages and triaging.
We realize that many non profits use yearly fireworks sales to make most of their money. We will support these non profits with other fundraisers. Some of us will pledge to help create new fundraisers and volunteer our time. We realize it is too late in the year to stop it this year. We would support sanctioned fireworks shows on the Fourth of July. We simply want our peaceful neighborhoods back. We want to feel safe. We call upon you to make this happen on our behalf. Let 2020 be the last year for fireworks in the City of Modesto and Stanislaus County. Thank you.

I am honestly a bit overwhelmed by how many people have joined this effort since I first put it up. This growth is entirely because of you and your willingness to speak up for our peace of mind. It is clear that I am not the only one feeling this way about our neighborhoods.

Fireworks are terrifying to many former service men and women who suffer from ptsd and also to thousands of helpless dogs and cats. Having done volunteer work for shelters, I can tell you more pets are lost and killed on the 4th of July than any other day of the year. In addition, countless brush and house fires are sparked by fireworks, both "safe and sane" and illegal.
Fireworks are causing more anxiety and animals and people veterans the deal with PTSD and a fire hazard and we’re getting more illegal ones in that sound like Bombs.
ALL fireworks should have been banned here YEARS ago!!. Not only can they be very dangerous, ("safe and sane" ones too) they pose an EXTREME fire hazard here in our tinder dry Central Valley! Fireworks terrorize pets, wildlife, and all animals (weeks before and weeks after the 4th!). It's time to ban all them! Both Calaveras and Tuolumne Counties, have not allowed ANY fireworks in their counties for years! It's time to ban them here!
I grew up in a country that didn’t allow fireworks, and they still don’t. The county does put on a professional fireworks show annually and it’s a big event to look forward to every year. Stanislaus needs to do the same. It will be a challenge at first, because the people here are spoiled and selfish. But, I believe it can and should be done.
My dogs are terrified. This is not enjoyable for many people and pets; and, it is not safe. Please put an end to all personal use of fireworks in Modesto.

I really don’t want to see the fireworks banned, but at this point I agree that we band all fireworks before it turns into a war. It’s a special holiday but many have ruined it for the innocent.

There are other ways for non-profits to raise money. Ban fireworks and free up emergency resources.
