The road that runs through our community is bustling with homes and businesses, yet the speed limit is set at a dangerous 50mph, creating a hazardous environment for residents, visitors, pedestrians, and cyclists alike.
Every day, countless cars speed through Pylle, endangering lives and creating an unsafe atmosphere. We have had numerous accidents, collisions and near misses over the years.
By reducing the speed limit to 40mph, we can significantly improve safety for everyone sharing our roads. Studies consistently show that lower speed limits reduce the risk and severity of accidents. For example, research from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents indicates that a reduction of 10mph can dramatically decrease both the likelihood and seriousness of collisions.
We call on the local council and traffic authorities to recognize the dangers of a 50mph speed limit on our built-up roads and take immediate action to lower it to 40mph. This change will not only safeguard our community but also enhance the quality of life for all who reside here.

I’ve lived in this village for 30 years and had ties with it for nearly 40 the accidents I’ve seen over the years is well into double figures with two deaths in a car that was down to speed
My daughter lives in Pylle .When I visit the road to my daughters house from Shepton Mallet is terrifiing.Even though there is many junctions people will overtake.When you need to slow down your panicking that someone will go into the back of you as this has happened to over people.It is a very dangerous road.
There are numerous businesses with entrances onto this very busy fast road! The worse thing they did to this village was straightening the A37 out through village which now has turned it into silverstone 🤷♂️🤨 100mph vehicles is common! I’m only amazed there’s been no deaths 🤷♂️🤨 you could put 20 mph but it won’t be enforced 🤨 speed ramps or islands would slow it down !
This is a very busy road. Family’s live on this road and some young children have to walk to there school bus stop and it’s very dangerous
The traffic does drive along that main road really fast. And if you call in the farm shop you have to wait ages to come out sometimes as it's so fast you can't take any chances.

I live on the crossroads just below the brow and find it hard to pull out. Many time I have had to pull straight into the lane opposite to let the car go past. They appear so fast. I also have young children in the garden playing.
